A jetty on the edge of the reef
King’s Jetty crosses the reef flat on the northeast side of R. Rasgatheem and ends where the seabed drops from about 18 m to about 900 m. That drop brings ocean fish within casting range.
Why the fishing is good
Current runs along the drop-off, and bait gathers in it, so ocean fish hunt within casting range of the T-head. From the jetty, anglers land yellowfin tuna, wahoo, giant trevally, mahi-mahi, rainbow runner, barracuda, kawakawa, and snapper.

How to get here
R. Rasgatheem is in Raa Atoll, about 189 km north of Malé. Most visitors fly to Ifuru, the atoll’s domestic airport, and finish the trip by boat.

How do I get to King’s Jetty?
Fly from Malé to Ifuru Airport in Raa Atoll, which takes about 40 minutes with Maldivian. From Ifuru, a boat takes you about 11 km to Rasgatheem, and the jetty is a short walk from anywhere on the island.
Where can I stay?
eMzaz Blue Lagoon is a guesthouse on Rasgatheem, within walking distance of the jetty. Nearby, there’s a resort on Faarufushi, about 6 km away, and a hotel on Ifuru, about 11 km away.
Do I need a permit to fish from the jetty?
We don’t know of any national permit for fishing with a rod and line from a jetty. Island councils set local fishing rules, so ask your guesthouse when you arrive.
What can I catch?
Anglers land yellowfin tuna, wahoo, giant trevally, mahi-mahi, rainbow runner, barracuda, kawakawa, and snapper from the jetty.
Can I use a cast net?
No. Cast nets aren’t allowed at the jetty.
When is the best time to visit?
You can fish year-round. December to April is usually drier and calmer, and May to November brings more wind and rain.
What should I wear?
Rasgatheem is an inhabited island, so cover your shoulders and knees in the village and on the jetty. Swimwear is only for designated bikini beaches.
Can I bring alcohol?
No. Alcohol isn’t allowed on local islands, and you can’t bring it into the Maldives.
Is there an ATM on the island?
Yes. Rasgatheem has a Bank of Maldives ATM, but it gives rufiyaa (MVR) only, so bring some cash too.
